Navy spokesperson Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo said that there was no response from the inside of the capsized ferry when the rescuers knocked on the exposed portion of the MV Princess of the Stars’ hull to check if people are trapped.

Despite denials that ransom, running in the millions, was paid to the kidnappers of ABS-CBN broadcaster Ces OreƱa-Drilon and her crew of two cameramen, Angelo Valderama and Jimmy Encarnacion, along with their guide, Mindanao State University professor Octavio Dinampo, some P20 million in total was paid for their release, with ABS-CBN also paying part of the ransom, an affidavit submitted by the undercover police agent revealed.
