Bring petition for lower power rates to ERC, Garcia urged

By Abigail L. Ho

MANILA, Philippines -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Tuesday urged Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Winston Garcia to bring his proposals to reduce power rates directly to the ERC.

“The Supreme Court says any lowering or increase in rates must be heard by the ERC. Now I heard (the claim) that if they (GSIS) take over management of Meralco, they can lower rates. So I urge the proponents to come to the ERC right away so that we can lower the price of electricity, instead of just (voicing out) his proposal in newspapers,” ERC chair Rodolfo Albano Jr. said.
