It’s all over but the formal signing of a peace agreement between the government and Muslim insurgents.

The separatist rebels from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Tuesday said the agreement was a done deal despite a Supreme Court order stopping the formal signing of the accord that gives them an ancestral domain. On the territory supposedly would rise their separate Islamic homeland in Mindanao in southern Philippines.

INFLATION surged to a 17-year high of 12.2 percent in July from 11.4 percent in June, the National Statistics Office (NSO) said yesterday.

Last month's inflation was the highest since December 1991 when it stood at 13.2 percent. Inflation was 2.6 percent a year ago.

"As expected, inflation in July recorded another increase," Bangko Sentral Gov. Amando Tetangco said, adding monetary authorities will respond appropriately to maintain price stability.

A senator yesterday said the Supreme Court (SC) itself should look into the alleged bribery and case-grabbing scandal at the Court of Appeals (CA), not just a mere three-man panel that has been formed by the high court to investigate the issue.

Administration Sen. Joker Arroyo said the high tribunal should not delegate the task of investigating the allegations to former SC justices because “what happened is too heinous (as it involves) alleged bribery and case grabbing.”
