Senators called on President Arroyo yesterday to sack peace adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. and members of the peace panel after he allegedly threatened to hold off military aid to North Cotabato if the province is attacked by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) resentful of local officials’ opposition to an expanded territorial pact with the secessionist group.

Funds are being raised on Panay and Negros islands to arm Ilonggos in Mindanao against separatists, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd revealed on Wednesday.
Roxas did not say who was or were behind the fund-raising or exactly what for money is being collected. His statement, though, came a day after the government and Muslim rebels aborted their scheduled signing of a memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain, which would be home to an independent Islamic state in southern Philippines.

CA stops Puerto Princesa court from hearing mining dispute

The Court of Appeals has stopped the Puerto Princesa Regional Trial Court from hearing the dispute between two mining firms in Palawan.
In a 15-page decision, the CA’s Special Former Fifteenth Division said the RTC cannot issue an injunction against the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Environment Management Bureau (EMB), and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) because they are not parties to the case.
