Students vow protests to continue through summer

The start of summer vacation does not mean the end of protest demonstrations against the Arroyo government.
Just when the Arroyo administration thought it would have a respite from demonstrations in the next few months because of the school break, League of Filipino Students (LFS) national chairperson Vencer Crisostomo said they would be bringing their protests to places where the youth would be converging during the summer months.

President Arroyo ordered yesterday the immediate implementation of measures to ensure the steady supply of rice at affordable prices in the country amid the reported worldwide shortage.
In her speech before officials and members of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Malacañang, Mrs. Arroyo said that international news are full of reports of worldwide shortage of rice which is priced as much as $700 per metric ton compared to $200 per MT in 2001.

The 24 newly promoted officers were frustrated over the delay of their confirmation by the Commission on Appointments (CA), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said yesterday.
